Cleaning a mattress with soaked in vomit? Please help

Oh pooh. I'm thinking white vinegar and bicarb will be involved, but what doI do first. Am I going to have to have a vomit stinking mattress forever? It's fresh right now, but pretty wet. Please help and thank you in advance, I'm off to sort out the poorly one.

I'd blot away as much of the wetness as possible - old towels that can be washed at higher temp than your normal wash?
Then I'd wash with Milton to kill germs and some of the smell and blot that too. Then sprinkle with bicarb, leave for a bit to dry (fresh air - near an open window?) then hoover off bicarb.
(I think the key is the blotting and removal of as much moisture as possible so it doesn't fester)

Thanks Mylovely. I blotted as much off as I could, and cleaned it with white vinegar and water.....It's not going to dry before bed.

I think I'm going to have to lay a towel over it tonight to sleep on and assault it again tomorrow. I've used all my bicarb up.

biological washing powder will eat up the enzymes.

scrub the area and have everyone take turns jumping on the mattress with towels.

ah - didn't think of that! Sure I've seen that on re-runs of how clean is your house.....

Had a quick google search and came up with the following....

Use towels to soak up as much moisture as you can.

Spray a solution of biological washing powder onto area and blot with more towels.
Standing on the towel will help soak up deep moisture.

Keep blotting till towels are dry.

Sprinkle baking soda over whole area and leave overnight.

Vaccuum baking soda off and should be ok

I would love to chuck the mattress out. The sick is on my side. Unfortunately it's only 4 months old.

Isn't it just typical - you buy a new mattress and .... hey presto there's an "accident". Might be worth considering getting a mattress protector. We have this cotton protector and although it's not waterproof, it stopped our mattress being affected when my waters broke in bed!
