Chester the Tiger has been on the receiving end of the worst of DD's tummy bug. How best to freshen him up?

and i'm not talking puke here. i washed him with johnsons shampoo and then a bit of dettol but he still smells awful. dh thinks bung him in a pillowcase then the washing machine but i am not convinced he will survive. poor dd, she is still not well and tonight had to go to sleep without him for first time in her 19months soppy

Hmmm...the dettol will not have helped much.

If you have handwashed him and he's survived, you can indeed put him in a cool wash (max 40 degrees) but don't for gods sake put him in the tumble drier.

I have put all my kids teddies and such through the washing machine a number of times and they are fine though it sad watching their little aces going round and round!
I never put them in a pillow case though and they are obviously not quite the same but very clean!

I put all the DDs' soft toys in the washing machine on a wool cycle. I don't care if you're not meant to do it, I can't stand the smell! And they've all survived fine, though the DDs sometimes find it a bit distressing to see their favourite cuddly toy hanging on the washing line by its ears. [evil mum emoticon]

My DSis has terrible problems with her oldest DD's cuddy toys - DNiece compains that they don't smell right after they've been washed! DSis says that is because they are rank by the time she manages to prise them out of (11-yo) niece's hands!

ewww... like POledra said. I have a silks wash on my machine which has an even slower spin than the wool wash (same temp). I use that. In fact I do it regularly anyway.

We had a major upset after I put Chloe the cat in the washing machine (on hot) and her fur went all matty. Dd was very upset

I had to do it though. It turned up here second hand and mangy from a school fete. My dc feel the need to re-home every stuffed toy. The more unsavoury it looks the more they want it
