Yawn, tedious, but what gets sticky labels off?

My fridge freezer STILL has the remnants of a grotty Hotpoint sticky label on it, obviously looks v attractive. Any ideas what will get it off? Haven't had much success with anything yet.

Isn't it nail varnish remover?

wuglet · 11/10/2009 20:47

eucalyptus oil

does the business every time

HuwEdwards · 11/10/2009 20:47

second Turkey's answer - or white spirit.

purpleturtle · 11/10/2009 20:47

Saw a tip somewhere the other day (a magazine?) that said mayonnaise. Couldn't do any harm, might work!

Ponders · 11/10/2009 20:48

WD40?

mwff · 11/10/2009 20:48

lighter fluid

PestoPumpkinMonster · 11/10/2009 20:49

Good range of suggestions, well done. Will try mayo first.

Nail polish remover really does work.

LowLevelWhingeing · 11/10/2009 20:52

WD40 and this stuff

hormonstersnomore · 11/10/2009 20:54

A hairdrier on a gentle heat will melt the sticky glue and it can be peeled off easily.

Ponders · 11/10/2009 20:54

I have tried sticky stuff remover from Lakeland & it didn't work

But haven't tried WD40 either

Ponders · 11/10/2009 20:55

Oh, I have used lighter fluid (ie petrol) in the past & that does work

DaisymooSteiner · 11/10/2009 20:55

You can get some little wipes called Zoff from Boots which are for getting plasters off skin, but presumably would work on freezers too! I've also discovered that they're great for getting gloss paint off your skin too.

cookielove · 11/10/2009 20:55

i used babyoil and a flat thin spatula to get selotape residue off glass

Legacy · 11/10/2009 22:42

Ah - you need Groom

Honestly - it cleans everything!

jemart · 11/10/2009 23:09

Surgical spirit.

Snorbs · 12/10/2009 00:07

Isopropyl alcohol (also known as rubbing alcohol). You can get it from the chemist.

It's been used for decades in recording studios and IT departments as a tapehead cleaner and general all-round solvent because it works well, evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.

SWP · 12/10/2009 13:51

Put a big dollop of mayonnaise on it for a couple of minutes then use a plastic knife or something to get the label off. Cheap and works every time!!

ChristieF · 15/10/2009 13:05

WD40 apparently.

orangina · 15/10/2009 13:11

Lighter fluid. Definitely.

whoisasking · 15/10/2009 13:17

Another vote for nail polish remover

flaminhell · 15/10/2009 13:19

butter
