my folks have a touch door
pita, kept breaking and they had to get a crap swivel catch
we have a KNOB

it is v deep so we have a rail with hangers for adult coats, also two peg racks - one low for kids' coats and one high for handbags, scarves etc. Kids won't use hangers so don't try.

and a shoerack

and a pile basket of crap hats and gloves

Yes was going to also say no to hangers for kids - we have a cupboard in the hallway which is too shallow for hangers anyway so have put up hooks - higher ones for adults & long coats and a couple of lower ones that the ds's can reach. Basket on the floor of the cupboard for sunhats in the summer and hats, gloves & scarves in winter (should appeal to your winter/summer rotation obsession!) Also has space for tennis rackets & some of my bags.

We have a separate small cupboard for sports bags, etc. This is also supposed to house the shoes but it's not big enough so we have a shoe rack too...
