How to get rid of mould in the shower?

This has probably been done to death but I need to know how to get rid of the mould that has deeply embedded itself in the shower sealant - and if I do manage to rid myself of it (without having to remove/replace sealant) how do I keep it at bay??

Domestos Grot Buster used regularly.

Use thick toilet bleach on it. Use cotton wool pads to dab it on thickly and leave for an hour then rinse. It's a living creature (a fungal mould like mushrooms) so hard to get rid of forever. Open windows when showering.

dettol mould and mildew remover - green spray bottle, works a treat!!!!!!

I second the dettol mould and mildew remover. I squirt it on before i go to bed and give it a scrub the following morning. Works really well - not sure if its meant to be left on all night tho

If it's deeply ingrained- you possibly can't get rid of the stains.

Removing and replacing sealant isn't hard. Use a stanley knife then a stanley knife blade in a suitable holder to get in flat against the tiles, get it all off (silicon won't stick well to silicon), get a £2 'gun', a tube of sealant and off you go. Brand new.

i use domestos (blue bottle) or disenfectant worked wonders with a toothbrush!

Can I add a question please as was looking for advice on a grimy shower and found this thread! We are about to cut out and redo the silicone sealant but I also have to tackle the tiles in the shower cubicle we have and the grout. I think the tiles are limescale (although thinking about it not sure as although we are hard water area the water into the shower is softened first by a filter). Any tips for the hard soap scum/limescale?

Also the grout between the tiles is discolouring and going a kind of orangey colour - any tips or ideas?

the best thing i got from kim webchat was that we must ventilate rooms with hot water in.

so open windows, put fan on. all that steam turns to mould.

Oooh, ooh, I have a top tip about replacing sealant!

If you're re-sealing around your bath, half fill the bath with water so there's some weight in it. This means the sealant won't pull away when you do use the bath. Or put something heavy in the shower tray.

I was about to post something very similar about mould, on the grout. Will try the dettol stuff.

Cant help with the mould. I have used most things mentioned here without much luck. Saying that though we have an enamel bath so I am very limited to what I can apparently use.

I do find though that an old toothbrush and a bleach solution works wonders for bringing up the grout.

Newtoitallmummy: I've been using Domestos Zero Limescale to get rid of limescale. Works a treat in the loo (where it's meant to be used!) but I have also used it round sinks/plugholes and it does work! The orangey colour on your grout is limescale too, I think, possibly in the early stages because I get that too but when I use a scrubbing brush on it it comes off no problems. Also second Grot Buster! HTH

Thanks all esp kando - have used the dettol mould and mildew remover - left it on about half an hour and the grout is much improved. I also have viakal spray so am going to try that tomorrow in round two!

Will move onto domestos grot buster if still not sorted.

Have also opened the windows and DH is going to adjust the extractor fan so it runs for longer after the light is turned off.
