Fantastically dull question about placemats...

Am trying to raise our game on the table laying front and quite fancy buying these table mats. Can anyone tell me if they would be hard with a cork back? That is what I am after, easy to wipe etc. I was just worried they would be those soft, smooth-backed ones which just slip all over our formica table.

All answers to this award-winningly tedious question very gratefully received.

THEY SEEM LIKE THE CORK BACKED TYPE....

IrishDraught · 15/09/2009 17:57

ooooops sorry!

mumblechum · 15/09/2009 17:58

FGS you'd think they'd tell you what they're made of.

I just bought some nice ones from John Lewis btw, wipe clean, with sort of felt stuff on the back.

Your q. is no more tedious than many, in fact more entertaining than some!

Thanks! Yes, I thought they looked cork/felt backed, but I have a terrible history of making assumptions about things and them turning out to be quite different. Might just order them and semd back if not right. Agree, mumble that they should state what they are made of, even Ikea can manage that.

Your thread title and thread made me laugh out loud so feel obliged to try and help. Actually quite a reasonable question - not at all obvious what they are made of. I would guess they are wipe clean cork back as my mum has pimpernel placemats of this construction (with Portmeirion design). Mmmm - not very helpful am I.

i have some melamine mats with a felt back which are virtually indestructible, some are just lacquered/varnished board which lifts off after a while.

Thanks Lilian and flutterbye - am going to order these and take a chance.
