Can I clean my kitchen floor with.....

....lime juice? (in water)

I want to mop my floor tomorrow but I don't have any floor cleaner or lemon juice. I do however have a lime in the fridge that is past it's best.

Maybe it's a daft question but can I squeeze the lime into my bucket of hot water and use that? I figure it would be just the same as using lemon as a cleaner?!

no bleach to add?

liahgen · 14/09/2009 21:15

it'll smell nice anyway.

Lemon juice cut through grease not sure 1 lime wouldl be enough. Can you not just use a little washing up liquid or shower gel?

bubblerock · 14/09/2009 21:21

Have you any washing powder?

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2009 21:25

It will leave your floor sticky, I think.

Do you have wooden floorboards? If so I read somewhere to make up about a litre of tea (regular black tea) and use that to mop with. I used to do it all the time in my old place and it cleaned the floor nicely and gave it a nice sheen.

Do you have any vinegar? It's good for washing floors (diluted in hot water) - you won't smell it once it has dried.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, as it happens dp was off to Asda this morning to pick up the new Dan Brown book while it's cheap so got him to get me some floor cleaner whilst there!

I just used washing up liquid this morning and it did a much better job than my usual Flash !

MamaMimi · 17/09/2009 21:40

mmmmm.... I just assumed washing up liquid would get too bubbly and would be hard to rinse off. I suppose you just need to use a tiny amount. But thanks I'll remember that if I ever run out again.

Wash up liquid is fab and cheap. Just use a dot of it on the mop or it does get a bit bubbly.
