Can I blend soup with a food processor, or will I need a blender as well?

Food processor will do just fine.

You can only put small amounts of liquid in a food processor. It will slosh out and make a terrible mess.

The easiest thing for soup is a Braun hand blender. You plunge it into the pan and give it a few blasts. You don't need to dirty another pan/bowl.

Buy a cheap stick blender for around £10 and save yourself a lot of mess and extra washing up.

I did once buy a cheap stick blender. It blew up after less than a year. Also it creates more mess when making soup, I find, as everything splashes around the pan.

Good point, about liquid, though, vinblanc.

That's why you need a Braun

Its all technique! Mine doesn't splash, cost £10 and has been in use for 10 years [nauseatingly proud emoticon]

I love my hand blender - instant soup, no work whisk and makes bread crumbs peasily.

GrendelsMum · 15/09/2009 10:44

A good hand blender is much much better for making soup than a food processor. Honestly. And far less washing up.

Actually I've just discovered that the fp I have my eye on comes with a blender included. I should think so, at that price!

Thanks for your tips, all!

My food processor (kenwood) won't blend hot soup, i think you have to wait for it to cool before blending it. Stick blender vote here too.
