How many light bulbs does your house need?

Katisha · 31/08/2009 20:37

DH and I have just added up how many light bulbs the various applainces need in our house and I am staggered!
Off the top of my head I would have said about 12. But actually it's more that 4 times that! Most of them in the kitchen what with all the congealed concealed lighting etc.
I hasten to add they are not all on at once...

23 in total, although all but 4 are energy saving.

Overhead lighting: 6. Lamps: 3.

Do I win the prize for living in the smallest shoebox?

Some of you must live in ruddy palaces...

RustyBear · 31/08/2009 21:08

Inside and outside, we have 57! But they are never all on at once.

Sitting/dining room: 2 ceiling fittings with 3 bulbs each in main part, one central fitting in dining part, one standard lamp, one wall lamp, one lamp that lights a slice of quartz from behind and a light in a glass fronted cupboard =11, but we usually have either the ceiling or the other lights on

Family room: 3 wall lights, one 3xbulb spotlight bar over the desk which is only on if someone's working there = 6

Kitchen/utility: 8x low voltage halogen spotlights, one fluorescent tube over the ironing board, one light in washing-machine area, 3 under-cupboard lights, 1 over-hob light, lights in oven, fridge & microwave =17

Cloakroom/hall/stairs: Total of 5 including one in understairs cupboard

Bedrooms: Central light & bedside light in each of 4 bedrooms, plus light over basin in one room = 9

Bathroom: Central light, light over basin, light in alcove containing wall cabinet = 3

Outside & loft: 2 in loft, 1 in garage, 2 in passage from back door to side gate, 1 by front door = 6

AS I say, they are never all on & they are nearly all low power bulbs, so we don't use that much electricity - in fact Southern Electric currently owe us rather a lot...

Katisha · 31/08/2009 21:09

We seem to have a lot of central light fittings that take 4 or 5 small bulbs. Don't live in a palace!

counted all and we have 10 but only use 8 really and all are energy saving except the ones in the lamps, saisburys sold 5 energy lightbulbs for £1 bargain

eandh · 31/08/2009 21:19

GodzillasBumcheek · 31/08/2009 21:23

We have 16 light bulbs in use, never all on at once, only one of which is not energy saving (in corner of kitchen which is one of those little strip light things). This includes lamps btw - they have energy savers in too

Now do i win a prize? no? WTF did i tell everyone for then?

Pielight · 31/08/2009 21:24

absolutely loads. Am in kitchen and I've counted 22 in the kitchen ALONE

get that sherby

RustyBear · 31/08/2009 21:31

So do you actually have one for a pie?

Pielight · 31/08/2009 21:32

god no Rusty, none going spare

I daren't start counting outside the kitchen.

sherby · 31/08/2009 21:36

22 in the kitchen, wtf, how? why? where?????

Pielight · 31/08/2009 21:39

Shall I itemize?

it's a big kitchen, mind. And we have those blessed spotlight things - there are 13 spots. One lightbulb in a standing up light thing in one corner. Then 6 lightbulbs under the units, as downlighters. And one strip light above the sink.

That's 21. I lied.

Pielight · 31/08/2009 21:40

does it help at all that at least six of the spots don't work. They don't.

RustyBear · 31/08/2009 21:42

btw, I also have 29 sockets in my kitchen

Pielight · 31/08/2009 21:43

Golly. You really have the potential to light up BIG TIME Rusty

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 31/08/2009 21:50

I have about 30 inc lamps and cooker hoods and enough sockets to blow the national grid if I put the all on at once. Acutally quite shocked when I added all the bulbs up kept thinking ooog there's one there too

No idea why but there is sockets everywhere in this house apart from where they would actually be handy.

Katisha · 31/08/2009 22:11

Off to count sockets as well now...

fatjac · 01/09/2009 13:03

57 including 3 5 arm chandeliers

fairybubbles · 07/09/2009 20:30

27! OMG I never realised there were that many. We are in process of replacing to energy saving ones at the moment when any bulbs blow. It's really expensive to replace them all at once.
