Creatures in my cupboards! :o What are they??

They are small, maybe 3mm max, tiny beetle-type things, almost clear ie very pale.

Not weevils, I've googled images and ruled them out. These critters look a bit like something that'd crawl out of a dusty book.

What are they and how do I get shot of them?? Yuck

do they crawl or jump? Have they got clear wings?

They probably are weavils, but baby ones. Buggers to get rid of!

I think we've got something similar, no idea what they are though!

We're trying to move house so we don't have to deal with it. (Well, amongst many other reasons)

flour mites? are they in the cupboard where your flour is kept?

If so, tis quite a common thing, just take everything out, clean an disinfect and chuck out the flour and anything else you find them in. When you buy flour - put it in a seal proof container so if it happens again it is contained

having just googled weevils I don't think they're what we've got. Ours are smaller and less grim looking.

If it is weevils you have, apparently they don't like bay leaves?

No wings or jumping. They crawl, almost like teeny tiny woodlice but less chunky, IYSWIM.

They could be flour mites, also look less chunky than that. Ok, will sort the drawer and keep everything in jars (most things are kept in jars already, there are just a few things in the cupboard.

Ugh, all this googling pictures of creatures is giving me the shivers.

what about these?WARNING - not for the faint-hearted about mites...

beanieb · 25/08/2009 13:55

flour mite things, as someone has suggested? Or oats? Any grain based stuff in your cupboards? They probably came with them.

And they'll move house with you!

Sorry everyone, this is really rank, isn't it??

They look a bit like the fourth picture along on your link, beanieb... Suppose it doesn't really matter what they are - they obviously hitched a ride with a bag of flour or something and I just need to clean them out and start over.

Thanks

ewwwwwwwwwwwww - I think ours are flour mites. Nice.

Definately sounds like flour mites to me- we had them a couple of years ago.
PIL bought us some very airtight flour containers from Ikea. Have had them again since in old flour, but the containers are fantastic and stopped them getting out into everything else!

Could they be Book Lice? I think we have these.

I had something in my cupboards. I binned everything that they could possible be in and blasted the inside of the cupboards with a hairdryer. They haven't been back since. I reckoned they'd arrived in cheap tesco flour.

I've had these before. I had some naan bread flour mix, forgot about it and when I came to use it the packet was heaving The flour mites had got into all the flour - yuck.

I binned all the flours in the cupboard, cleaned very thoroughly then swapped cupboards round so something non-food lived in there. Bought new flour and put that into the now empty non contaminated cupboard.

I was told I needed the plastic containers for everything, but couldn't afford to do so. They've not come back, but we have moved house!

I got them in one of my cup cupboards a while ago (also stored cereals in there). Changed all cereals to plastic containers, and anti-bacd the cupboard, and they've gone. I've now got them in my baking cupboard. Guess I need some more storage containers in there..... That's my job for when the kids are back to school!

Cripes! I don't have any of these beasties but am now going to rush out and buy lots of plastic containers before the invasion!

OMG - my food cupboards are a right state, and although no creepy crawlies, am now thinking it is only matter of time. Will have major plastic container splurge and a sort out soon.

Phew, glad it's not just me, wishing chair!

I think the booklice must've been attracted by the fresh plaster in our new kitchen. Yes, that's it, nothing to do with bad hygiene, no siree.
