Can I ask how you all keep your wood floor spick & span please?

Just had solid oak floor put down throughout the whole of the downstairs (apart from the kitchen) and wondered how to keep it nice and clean without ruining it!

So far I have just swept it, but am thinking surely there must be more to it?

Is it treated in any way?

I have solid wood floors (80 year old ones...) that have been sealed, and I wash them as I would tiles, after hoovering them.

I have just had a look on the box and it doesn't say it's treated. But it doesn't look like it's porous. It's not glazed, but is sealed I think. Non-engineered, if that means anything?

I hoover but only cos my floor is already scratched! This looks good Method Wood Mop and Liquid but it says it's not suitable for oiled floors.

I sweep daily and use a microfibre mop thing (lakeland, thus)
but I know ours are sealed so don;t worry re using normal cleaner (ie diluted flash)

agree you should ring the mfr and see what they recommend. If they do recommend any kind of liquid cleaner (like the Method one or similar), the microfibre mop is a good way to use it without getting the floor too wet

I agree about not getting the floor too wet. IF I HAVE to wash, I really wring my mop out. I only use cleaners approved for wooden floors. Mine are Kahrs.

I have waxed Oak floor throughout my house. Brush often. Every couple of months I get some special wood floor cleaner (its milder than normal ones) and use something like the mop referred to below. I would never however use it to scrub floors. I would lovingly clean them on hands and knees.

brush pretty much every day. Mop weekly.

I had similar flooring (I think) laid about six months ago.

Fitter recommended sweeping mainly with an occasional clean with a barely damp mop.

Third the microfibre mop (Vileda do a similar mop to the lakeland one which is stocked in our local Waitrose)

I also have a pledge wood floor spray that I find useful for cleaning the parts under the table where yoghurt/egg/banana etc can dull the natural wood sheen after a while

We've got beech flooring which I believe is a softer wood compared to oak.

I hoover (less frequently than I really should) and also use the method floor cleaner to get rid of any stubborn marks. Lovely almond scent too. This seems to work well as long as you use it sparingly and don't get the floor actually wet.
Take care especially at the ends of each bit of wood, which can absorb liquid if you're not careful and turn slightly darker.

First, hoover or use a microfibre dry cloth to pick up all dust, then spray with window cleaner section by section and wipe with a clean cloth. It has a little ammonia in it, cleans and shines and unsticks dried on food. I use it for my old oak floors (c. 1915) which are sealed but not polyurethaned. If you hoover frequently you will keep the floors looking good for longer because dirt particles can be abrasive. Might be worth taking off outdoor shoes in the house.
