Hi - just recently got venetian blinds in my back room and kitchen. What is the best way to clean them and with what? Do you need to take them off or clean them whilst still up on the windows.

Any advice will be most appreciated

yes! it's very lazy way to do it though. but the water is always really yuckky brown

i have an ostrich feather duster they get dusted twice a week.
wipe down with a damp cloth when i can be bothered.

I got a cleaner thingy from John Lewis which sort of clamps around the blind which you can wipe them down with. Otherwise use gloves to wipe them down with perhaps?

(disclaimer: not the world's most diligent cleaner and only used the JL thing once and after that my cleaner did them for me!)

I have been doing mine today and boy, is it boring. I have got a gadget, like 2 fluffy fingers which you can wet- but it is useless.
I resorted to a damp J cloth and used my hands.

I only do them about twice a year when they look filthy. sorry.

take them down and attach them to a washing line and hose them down - works great!

ascouser · 23/08/2009 21:56

don't know if you have wooden ones or not, I do... wipe them with a dryer sheet and they don't attract so much dust...honest

Summerisover - Like the sound of that

I get my kitchen blinds down periodically and lay them out in the garden. I wash them over with a sponge and soapy water then hose them off. Leave them to dry. A quick wipe with a damp ecloth to get any smears off and rehang.

Inbetween I hoover them over or use a fluffy duster to get dust off.

Used to go over them individually - but took ages (have about 7 of the things!)

In fact I am now peering at them - and it's time for a clean again.....
