Miele cat and dog lost suction

Can anyone give me any tips, my beloved miele cat and dog has very little suction.
I have changed the bag and checked all the pipes and nothing has helped. When I turn it on it has so little suction it picks hardly anything up and if I put it onto the strongest setting then it blows open the casing a little where a black box type thing is pushed out of place.
My dh has annoyingly been using it to hoover up loads of dust and stuff from demolishing walls for the extension. i am woried he has broke it.

Have you checked the filters? They are probably blocked. You can order new ones from Miele's website.

If you open up the body, where the dust bag is, the filter is slotted in just behind. It looks like a black box type thing...

never realised you have to change the filters and I;ve had it over a year so I suppose that could be the problem thanks trellism

problem solved dh came home and has cleaned out the filter now working great again

this happened to me also - i didnt notice one of the filters and the others looked cleaner - vacuum working like new now :)
