Net curtains- what do you think about them?

I've always had net curtains at the front of the house as i'm fed up of passers by and local youths staring into our living room.
I know they are a total fashion 'faux pas' but i don't like roman blinds as they get very dusty.
Also, i really don't understand people who sit in their living rooms at night with the light on and the curtains open.
Anyone could be out there watching you!

i hate them but have them!
actually, i was going to replace them with wooden venetian blinds, but we have bizarre windows with no recess which also happen to be really, really big. so would be very expensive.
plus it would take forever for dp to get around to putting them upl

so, for now it is nets.

i have had nothing there for a while as it was soooo much lighter in here iwthout them, but you can see everything from the street, all the way through into the back garden, so no privacy at all

Necessity!

wooden venetians are dust attracting fiends. I loved taking mine to the tip.
Nets here too.

I'm not keen but thats just a personal choice. We have the horrible "office type blinds" so not much better. I really want wooden venatians, I clean all the time so the dust wouldn't be a problem.

If you are happy and they meet your needs then that's all that matters.

I hate frilly nets but what choice do you have? Someone should get on dragon's den and make a fortune with an alternative. We've just been on hols in a flat with no window coverings except thin curtains for night. Car park at back so all and sundry watching you go to the loo, to bed, in the kitchen. Also burglers can see if you're out. We have bought silver metal blinds from ikea for most of our windows but you have to open them slightly for light. Great price. About £5 each. Didn't seem to have them last time. There are some lovely voiles about. Dunelm Mill. Plain or patterned. If you want privacy and security you don't have a choice.

Have you considered shutters?

Tiered shutters let you control the light that comes into the room with the slats open, closed or tilted to filter the sun.

these type of things are nice.

dont like them,it took 9 years to wean dh off them but i won!!
blinds may get dusty but are easier to clean than grubby nets

A very cheap - and much more modern - alternative to nets is window film

It's self adhensive and creates an etched glass effect, giving privacy while letting in plenty of light.

I have wooden blinds in lounge, kitchen, playrrom, our room and landing then blackout blind sin each of the dd's rooms. I hate nets but mainly because I know the dd's would pull them down!

Blinds in kitchen and playroom are pulled up to about 1/3 below top of windows to l;et light in, blinds in lounge, our room (front of house) I just twist to let in as much or littl elight as I want (oh and have silly size windows but very handy dad who cut my wooden ikea blinds to fit and put them all up in one day
