what do i use to clean the door seal with please? Water is retained sometimes in the bottom of the middle of the seal (if that makes sense ) and it's yukky and smelly,. I guess really i should remember to wipe it dry after each time I use the machine but.....

Any ideas what i can safely clean it with please?

TIA

just use kitchen paper

southeastastra · 24/07/2009 21:30

then run hot wash with bicarb

paranoidmother · 24/07/2009 21:34

White Vinegar works quite well to, doesn't smell like a chippy either.

Oh and a boil wash will also help. Once you've done this leave the door open, to dry and then wipe round once dry.

mckenzie · 24/07/2009 21:36

thanks very much guys. off to see if I have any bicard or white vinegar....

why do our washing machines smell so much these days

EldonAve · 24/07/2009 21:38

mine was pongy so I did the vinegar hot wash but still yuck

a hot bio wash sorted it
apparently if you use non bio you can get grim grease build up

mckenzie · 24/07/2009 21:48

My mum always wipes her door seal after each wash and she doesn't get any build up so I think that's the answer. It's juts a PITA though isn't it? I had some yukky clothes that I'd used in the garden today that needed washing so Im running a boil wash now (with bio) and will see what it's like after that. Is the vinegar to go into the machine or to wipe the seal with? Ditto the bicarb please. It seems I have both

TIA

My neighbour was telling me how fantastic this was yesterday.
Haven't tried it myself - but she is very house proud and gushing about how good it was

meep · 25/07/2009 08:57

I use dishwasher cleaning tablets on the hottest wash. Have also been told (by washing machine repair man) to alternate between powder and liquid detergent to prevent build up.

mckenzie · 25/07/2009 09:42

thanks guys. I've seen that Dr Beckmann stuff in Sainsbury so i'll pick some up and try it. And that's an interesting tip meep but I think I do alternate quite a bit as i have to use different detergent for DD.

thanks shigella92. I shall think about changing to powder then. Just as easy to use huh?

Even if the liquid is in tabs abd you don't pour it into the dispenser?
