Buying curtains- thicko question

I have measured the windows .
When buying curtains is it the total size that is on the packet or per curtain.

Does that even make sense?

actually they are the same

because the curtains are gathered at the top each one is (ungathered) the size of the window. So you buy a pack of 2 so when gathered they cover a window that's the size printed on the packet.
