What's the problem with my leather sofas?

I can't get them clean. There are spots of what looks like mud along the sides and front (I think the dog might have shaken himself after a walk) and they just won't come off.
I've tried leather cleaning spray, leather cleaning cream and in desparation antibac wipes. It looks clean until it dries out then the marks are back.

Can't have that.

It sounds like it could be an oil mark then, if it looks clean till it dries?
What do you think? If it is oil maybe something like bicarb powder or talc to absorb the oil. Might be too late mind

Oh dear. Thanks anyway. I will ask dh if he has anything that might help in his workshop.
