Earlier in the week (might have been Sunday night, I forget) one of DS's bottles of cow's milk spilt on my bedroom carpet (about 100ml, I reckon, so not too much)
Mopped it up with cold water and a towel and thought I'd got it all up.
But obviously not. It HONKS and it's really disgusting.
Am I too late for bicarb to try and soak up the smell and then hoover? Should I try wet detergent again?(and if so what? washing up liquid? washing powder?)
Tis horrible cheapo nylony carpet left by former occupants.
TIA for any help

This happened with my car (in the heat it was especially grim). I tried loads of products, but the only things that got it out was a weak mixture of hot water and bleach. Don't know if you want to chance that on your carpet though?

Ooh, You think Hot water?

Not sure about bleach though you are right.

try washing again with a biological washing powder/liquid.... the enzymes in that should kill off the bacteria thats causing the smell.

Well as it is there so long now, I would use hot water now, to "melt" whatever is causing the smell. Have you tried washing powder? Again a weak solution. Something mild that won't bleach it.
