ANTS!!! help...

hi,

last night came home from 2 weeks on hols to find ants in our kitchen to welcome us! not a huge amount but a few to freak me out.....

we've cleared out all the cupboards where the ants where coming from (huge amount stuck on the syrup can!) but can't find source and where they are is nowhere near our patio door that leads to garden! (hubby thinking of taking out integral fridge to look behind tonight!!)

put down one of those bait things, follow instructions and they will be gone in a week or so. they are probably underneath house.

have just vaccumed and noticed a few crawling on our oak floars!

yes that's it. there are several different makes and they are all good. my neighbour had one disguised as a plastic rock which was quite funny (we have a lot of ants!)

Mix borax and sugar and leave in various places, they will tuck in and more importantly will take it back to te colony and kill off the Queen.. I did this and it took 2days..

We live near to beach and soil is sand and massive number of ants. You can't kill them all but you can keep them outside. Fantastic creatures and beautiful, and how they work together. They were in our house this year again in the heat. . Tried all sorts in the past. Nothing really worked except Ant Stop. You buy it as a spray or bait stations. I can't put anything down in the house as we have two dogs. We put two Ant Stop bait stations, one at back one at front, in the garden next to the house. It took a couple of days but completely clear now. They take it back to the nest and it kills the lot apparently. Great stuff.

Ants dislike rosemary and lavender so I always put dried sprigs at back of my food cupboards. Also talcum powder kills individual ants as it suffocates them, so you can put that around base of cupboards or on their route to your cupboards if you can find it without worrying about pets/DCs/poison near food.
