With blu-tack,I roll a bigger ball of it over the stubborn stuff and it just adheres.

Don't know if this will work on stone, though, sorry!

If it goes horribly wrong, I accept no blame!

depending on what type of stone it is you could try sanding it off with fine sandpaper.

works a treat on my blue slate floor.

it will leave marks at first but these fade within a week as the stone is worn again with you walking on it.
