decorating a little girls bedroom,*nightmare*

i am planning well ahead,i want to make sure i have everything bought and ready for a total redecoration of my daughters bedroom. i would like a french type theme,ie already have 2 white wrought iron bedframes in her room,already spotted the white french style peices of furniture,spotted the patchwork quilted throws, but i have very little time to go out and search ,most is done online, i am trying to find a blind to go in the window with cutains on the outside,i would like some form of pink gingham checks on 1 and vintage florals on the other it doesnt matter which way around but my difficulty is having one of the two patterns replicated in a wallpaper for below her dado rail without costing the earth!!!

You should be able to paint a gingham pattern on the walls very easily - use rollers or low-tack masking tape to get the lines straight?

Laura Ashley could be a good place to look. I got a lovely pink gigham fabric from there made into curtains for my DD's room

mousey84-that does work,did that pre-children,very succesfully.hoping to get it done as speedily as possible this time ie cheat with wallpaper if pos as moving both my daughters in together and at max may have an overnight to do this in whilst the girls stay with nana,pretty sure the dulux store had the paper,so blametheparents i'm off to laura ashley to see if i can get the fabric,thanx

Im rubbish at wallpapering, so I stick with paint! You could mask it off (prob takes longer than painting!) and put down sheets to protect floor while the kids are still there and have everything ready to go (paintbrush, paint, trays whatever) Use a plumb line to make sure the vertical lines are straight, then use a right angle (corner of a book or something) to check the horizontal one...or use a spirit level, but I dont own one , so did method above!

If you need to fit blinds and curtain poles then best to that first - maybe a day in advance- so no brick dust settles in the paint.

What a lovely suprise it will be for them coming home to a lovely new room! We did that for dds birthday last year and she was thrilled.

I would paint it and go for a very light green below the border and a white above it.

mousey84 i am brilliant at painting and paint effects but sadly my older daughter probably has adhd we are awaiting a diagnosis,as witty and a pleasure she is that masking tape would be off before i'd finished one line!! i am rubbish at papering but have convinced myself the small drops below the dado would be pretty easy,have recently papered two alcoves with very expensive paper in the lounge and i was shaking at the potential mess i could make but thankfully it turned out brilliant. i just want it to be really special for the girls,especially the older one who is starting school in sept already with a fight on her hands
