How much dishwasher salt do I put in?

I have Bosch dishwasher, I used to use the all in one tabs but just switched to separate rinse aid, salt and dishwasher powder (cheaper!).

Trouble is, it doesn't say on the dishwasher instructions or the salt bag how much to put in.

Do you know much I should put in? Can I put the whole bag in (if it will take that much) and just top up when the salt light comes on? It has a screw lid at the bottom of the machine and I have filled it with water as per dishwasher instructions and just put a couple of cups in for now (and the light has gone off). Obv don't want to put too much in but also don't want to have to keep topping up often if I can just put the whole lot in.

i just fill mine until i can't fit any more in.
the instruction manual should tell you how much will fit, but if you don't have it to hand then just chuck as much as you can in. be careful it doesn't all overflow though

Just fill it up!

There is probably an indicator light that will come one when it is getting low.

Fill it up until no more salt will go in.

Depending on the softness of the water in your area will depend how often you need to top it up - our water is really hard and ours needs topping up every 4-6 weeks or so.

I remember reading something ridiculously complicated in a dishwasher manual.

It was something like - phone up your local water board and ask for the then multiply it by something else in this helpful table we have put in the manual, then add your shoe size and the number of times you blink per hour to get the number which determines how much salt you put in.

So, it just shoved it in until no more would fit.

I wish I was a bit more fly by the seat kinda gal; I'm a bit of a by the book girl and get really confused when the book doesn't tell me what to do

i dont bother with the salt i filled mine to the top when i first got it and the light was still on i filled it again a few weeks later and still not gone off so with that i just did not bother any more and my dishes still come out as clean and i have never had to have it fixed touch wood and its 4 years old

I have a Siemens and live in a hard water area. I just fill it up as much as possible. Previously I would wait until the warning light came on to add more. After five years the warning light didn't come on and I left it too long. The heating pump was damaged and it reported an E09 error. Fortunately the pump was replaceable. If you have hard water area don't skimp on the salt.

I have a Bosch DW and the instructions just say to put in salt until the water starts overflowing.
