Cleaning/Prepping walls query

I am wanting to decorate my kitchen, I have all the things I need etc.

But, One thing is puzzling me and I don't know how to go about it.

I have an extractor fans and the walls (papered walls) at either side have become covered in a fine layer of grease etc from when the fan is turned on.

What would be the best way to clean/prep the wall before hand before I paint it.

Obviously we wouldn't be using the fan during decorating.

Thanks

Sugar soap is really good, you can get it in a ready made solution from B&Q. I have used it often when decorating and you'd be surprised what it can shift. Only make sure to not completely soak the paper and allow it time to dry out before painting over it.

NappyStack - yes I agree. Its the only way. Sugar soap is also great for getting printer / photocopy toner off office walls before painting as well. Most offices are covered in a really fine film of toner and toner sticks to wall paper really well - just like it is designed to.

Thank you both very much.

I have actually got some sugar soap in preparation to give the top of the cupboards a good fettling.

Nappystack, I think I'll get the walls a good clean 2-3 days before I'm going to paint to make sure that they paper is dry.
