Cleaning/Prepping walls query

I am wanting to decorate my kitchen, I have all the things I need etc.

But, One thing is puzzling me and I don't know how to go about it.

I have an extractor fans and the walls (papered walls) at either side have become covered in a fine layer of grease etc from when the fan is turned on.

What would be the best way to clean/prep the wall before hand before I paint it.

Obviously we wouldn't be using the fan during decorating.

Thanks

Make a Sugar Soap solution (concentrate available at DIY stores) and wipe the walls with it and then rinse them (remove residue) and if still tacky then repeat sugar soap and rinse routine until smooth to the touch and then when they are dry you can paint.

Sugar soap can also be used to wipe the fan to remove residue from it too.

Happy Decorating.
