Wait till you're about to move out, and pay for a professional carpet cleaner. In the meantime, discover the joys of Vanish carpet cleaner, and similar.

Vanish carpet cleaner is the business

Dilute Dettol in bucket of hot water (as hot as you can stand it), microfibre cloth and away to go with elbow grease.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 28/05/2009 17:51

That or a bit of persil wash power and a dishcloth (and the elbow grease)

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 28/05/2009 20:36

Doris - wouldn't that fizz up too much? I mean, even with just a little washing powder?

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 28/05/2009 21:18

Sorry pregnant brain, i disolve it in a bucket first then wash the carpet with it. When not pregnant (i.e. can get on my hands and knees) I use it for all carpet stains, and very rarely do I struggle to shift stuff.

(altho' carpets are V atm)

Take my advice, change to laminate/wood as soon as you can afford it. I have laminate, I prefer carpet really, but there comes a point when carpets just won't come clean any more once you have babies/toddlers!
