Anyone got any pearls of wisdom for cleaning the grease off a nature slate floor?

This is a very new area of MN to me, because, well, I'm perfect really! Or is it that usually I can't be arsed?

Anyway, I've got a black slate floor, which is reasonably easy to keep clean, but the area around the cooker, has grease marks on it and I've tried all manner of things to get it spit spot, but I've run out of ideas. I've used slate and stone cleaner, soda crystals, Cillit Bang floor cleaner. Is there anything I've missed?

Mo, is it not sealed? It shouldn't be getting marks if it's been sealed.

No idea how to remove (presume you can't get it up on the ironing board with some brown paper)

but once you have, seal it thoroughly with special slate tile sealant.

ah!

Marvellous! It is sealed with the proper stuff, but it still appears to leave marks. I must admit the soda crystals and hot water was the best of the bunch, so I'll try that again, I think. Thanks.

The cord on my iron is very long, so I could try brown paper actually!

I have unfinished granite surfaces in the kitchen that mark incredibly easily. Grease just seems to sink into them straight away. The only thing I have found that works (not that I have tried many things mind you) is neat Fairy Liquid.

Not sure whether it would help on slate but you could always try it?
