Miele Washing Machine - worth splashing out on?

My washing machine has just died and I have ordered a new Zanussi machine but then I heard people talking about Miele lasting for years and years and currently having a 10 year guarantee. Cant decide if I'm better with my £240 Zanussi or £790 Miele? Can anyone help me decide? Thanks.

If you are in a hard water area and do not have a water softener in your house I would opt for a cheaper machine and replacing it more often

I have had my £1000 (it was reduced in Selfridges sale from 1500) miele washing machine since 2001 - nothing has ever gone wrong with it - it came with a ten year guarantee.

We have very hard water, not noticed a problem.

We've had ours for 3 years and I do love it. People have said that spares are expensive compared to other brands, but as they don't tend to go wrong....

We have a Miele - bought last year after years of having to replace cheap ones every three years.

I love it - definitely a good move even though we are strapped for cash.

Long automatic guarantee but Miele go further and say machine is expected to last for 20 years plus.

It is the most user friendly machine I've ever used - it tells you how long to go and lets you stop part way. (Useful because baby sleep in the laundry room and spin cycle wakes her up - she's in there now, or else I would tell you the model.) Its got a 30 min cycle, as well as a two hour heavy duty wash and lets you choose temp on all settings.

Shop around and see if you can get a better price. Our model was about £650, because there had been an upgrade in that range.

Only complaint about Miele's that I've heard is that they are noisy. Seems okay to me though.

My Mum has a Miele and she swears by them!

It is aprox 7 years old and nothing has ever gone wrong with it! 10 year guarantee is not to be sniffed at esp if you do a lot of washing!

Having said that she also had a Bosch dishwasher which lasted over 21 years - in the end she had to get a new one as she was having a new kitchen and wanted an integral one but the Bosch was still going strong!

Maybe she is just lucky?

Don't know anyone with a Zanussi machine, sorry!

I Love my Miele...We had a brand new hotpoint which caused us no end of trouble in the first few months so after hours of phonecalls to customer services where we bought it from they finally agreed to refund us, and we spent an extra several hundred quid to get a Miele instead...Best "home appliance based" decision ever!

Thanks everyone - ordered my Miele and getting it next week. It comes with a 10 year guarantee so that convinced me.
