I would download the details from Dyson's website, but Dyson clearly doesn't invest in its website technology and the search is taking an age?

Our Dyson is filthy - I know I can wash out the bowl, but is it ok to wash the cone bit too? And any idea how to wash the filters? The ones we have are washable, but we didn't keep the instructions.

The filter - use warm water and a tiny bit of washing up liquid. Squeeze it a lot. Dry it under a radiator. It is a grim job!

I wouldn't bother with the bowl and cone unless it smells, as it looks exactly the same after another 2 vacuums IME.

It depends what model you have - if you have the model with the rectangular "corrugated" filters then they should only be washed under cold running water until the water runs clear. We left our current one too long and washed it gently in warm soapy water before putting under the running tap! It seems OK but the website specifically says cold water only for these.

Thanks everyone - I phoned the helpline - didn't expect anyone to be there on a bank holiday - but a very helpful woman told me what I needed to know:

  • It's fine to wash out the bin
  • on no account wash the cone - brush it with a stiff brush
  • wash the filters under the tap (only if they're washable ones)
  • if you want, swill out the hoses, or put them in the bath.

And make sure everything is completely dry before using it again.

Glad Dyson was able to help - obviously their telephone system is better than their website!
