If you don't have a utility room and do ironing, where do ou keep it?

We tend to do ironing once a week and recently demolished our understairs cupboard where we kept the basket of ironing waiting to be done.

It's yet to find another home and I'm sick looking at it! Where do you keep yours, and do you have something nicer than my hideous basket?

...and why don't we have an edit function?

Mine lives in the corner of my bedroom in a rather classy big blue Ikea bag .

When I win the lottery I am paying for my ironing to be done, so I don't have to look at said Ikea bag every time I go into my bedroom!

GypsyMoth · 23/05/2009 10:10

mine seems to stay in kitchen/diner......diner side. either on sideboard,or on an end dining chair!! hate seeing it. my 15 year old does it once a week for 25p an item!

booyhoo · 23/05/2009 13:12

mine gets shifted from one surface to another depending on when we need to use the surface, as for ironing it, i do it when its too heavy to lift off its current surface. not much help i know.

mascaraohara · 23/05/2009 13:18

Sits on a side in the kitchen. I hate it but am short of room so there's no real alternative.

sorry no use at all.

shinyshoes · 23/05/2009 13:30

sits in my room in a wash basket until sunday then I spend about 2 hours sunday afternoon doing it. I only iron school uniforms and work uniforms, I don't do daily clothes, they go on body as is or whoever wants their stuff ironed does it themselves.

ohdearwhatamess · 23/05/2009 13:42

I do have a utility room and don't do ironing .

Mine stays in a heap at the bottom of the airing cupboard until I have anough to send to the lovely ironing lady.

noordinarymum · 26/05/2009 23:23

Mine is in a wicker basket in my bedroom sitting on top of a wooden trunk....it is always over loaded Also, the pile of socks that i can never be bothered to pair up sit there aswell.....

themoon66 · 26/05/2009 23:25

MIne is in white wicker basket in spare bedroom.

I have a utility room but I would never iron in there. I need to be in front of the telly.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/05/2009 23:29

I don't have a utility room.
I only really iron my work clothes or special occasion stuff for the ds's, (dp is a builder and allergic to ironed clothes
so when I've got something out of the washer that needs ironing, it stays on the kitchen worktop for anything up to 48 hours before its ironed and put away.
I used to have an ironing basket but found that things I didn't wear very often ended up living permenantly at the bottom of the basket.

Tortington · 26/05/2009 23:30

in the kitchen - which is really nonsensical - becuase the clothes are in our room - so make sense to take the bloody thing up to our room

MaureenMLove · 26/05/2009 23:32

Mine is hiden out of sight, behind a rather conveniently placed sofa. the sofa is in the kitchen/diner and is set on an angle, so there's dead space behind it.

llareggub · 26/05/2009 23:34

If I take clothes off the dryer and iron that evening, the pile lives on a sofa in our conservatory. If I don't have time, then I take that pile to the mountain basket and hide store it in the cupboard under the stairs. When things get really bad, the overflow ends up in the spare bedroom.

The I send it out to the nice woman down the road.

Linnet · 26/05/2009 23:37

Mine lives in a basket at the end of the hall, beside the ironing board which is permanently set up (in the misguiding hope that seeing it sitting there will encourage me to actually do the ironing but I just close the living room door so I don't have to look at it) and mainly what happens is it sits there and I root through it every morning looking for something for dd2 to wear to nursery and I iron myself a top for work.
I used to be really good at ironing as I went along and putting it all away, but seem to have the lost the notion.
My dream home will have a utility room.

MumHadEnough · 26/05/2009 23:43

I just designed and had fitted a new kitchen and this was one of the things I "built" into it.

I got a tall larder unit put round the boiler, the washing basket sits in the bottom of the unit, then there's a shelf for ironing with the boiler above.

Its perfect smug

psychomum5 · 27/05/2009 00:11

at the moment it lives in a corner of the lounge, or in the hallway of our bedroom. am sooooooooo looking forward to my futility room!!

grouchyoscar · 27/05/2009 08:18

OK

Washing to iron lurks in a washing basket in the bedroom, by the main chest of drawers.

Ironing board hides by the side of the dresser, the iron lurks behind that.

Ironing is done either in the front room or the kitchen but I have been known to set up the board in the garden on a sunny day. Yeah, drag the board, iron, cd player/dab and crumpled washing outside and listen to whatever Edgar Jones stuff is available

I loathe ironing BTW

teenyweenytadpole · 27/05/2009 08:38

Mine lives in DD's bedroom in a basket behind the door. I am currently trying to work my way to the bottom of the pile! I do my ironing in my bedroom, listening to the radio. The ironing board lives in the small gap next to my wardrobe and the iron lives on the bedroom windowledge. I would love a utility room - but a good radio/i-pod dock would be an essential addition!

mrsmaidamess · 27/05/2009 08:41

(ironed)

I do have a utility, not big enough to actually iron in, big enough to store it in though. I keep mine in a funky fabric zipped bag.

stickylittlefingers · 27/05/2009 08:45

we have a bit of dead space behind the kitchen door, so the ironing board lives there and I put up some coat hooks, off which hang the bag with our ironing in it and our pinnies. The bag with our ironing in it is a pillowcase with a loop sewn on it. It's the hi-tech solution

AMumInScotland · 27/05/2009 08:59

No utility room. The ironing lives over the banister rail, where it is at least staying flat and uncreased till I get to it. If we have people in who I don't want to see it, it gets thrown onto a bed till they've gone.

I usually iron once a week, and do whatever is lying there. But I don't iron everything - most just gets folded and put away once it's dry.

I think if I couldn't see the ironing stack, it would never get done, so it would be dangerous for me to hide it away in a cupboard

yama · 27/05/2009 09:04

All clean clothes are put away when dry.

It is then the responsibility of the wearer to iron anything they wish to wear crease-free.

PolkaDotRachel · 27/05/2009 14:56

I do have a utulity room but I keep the ironing in blue ikea bag [waves at Wilts] and when it's full I send it out to an ironing service!

[Lazy cow emoticon]!!!!

mulranno · 29/05/2009 12:00

Yama...I am the same...I iron nothing until needed...so all goes away out of sight immediately. Then iron when worn...probably iron one thing once a month........I ahve never done a pile of ironing. My husband irons a shirt maybe 2 times a week for work....but mostly choose to buy stuff that doesnt need ironing...and never buy aqnything that needs handwashing either!
