How to descale an iron?

How do you descale an iron?

Ours has white powder coming out of the bottom and going all over the clothes.

With mine, you have to put it to the highest temperature with a small amount of water, then press down a special button while tilting it back and forward over the sink. If yours doesn't have a button, then you should probably go for the maximum steam setting it has. That should get it to spit all the gunk out of the steam holes.
