Hanging out washing?

Please help stop a daily row in my house.

If you have lots of wet washing that needs drying and it takes about 4 days to dry on the inside airers, would you hang it out if there was a chance of rain?

DH refuses to hang out any washing if the forecast says rain. For example yesterday it said there would be heavy rain, and there was but not until half 4. But he refused to put the washing out. Then when I went and put it out, he brought it back in when I popped upstairs.

I would normally put the washing out and then run round like a mad woman if it starts to rain.

rain doesn't hurt it

I would hang out the big things (t-shirts, trousers etc), but put thing like socks and underwear on an airer indoors - then, if it does rain, there's less things to re-hang up.

also - your DH hangs out laundry? Be thankful for the small things

He's very good Sheeta. He does loads round the house(but then moans if I don't do it his way)

I have a pulley which is wonderful and I fill that first and it will dry things over night. If I have more than one wash to hang up (nearly every day) I will risk putting the rest out: we live in Scotland and it always rains so if it didn't put it out then nothing would ever dry.

I hang it out and worry when/if it rains, i've been lucky this week, i've hung it out early and if it did rain in the afternoon I have brought it in and the washing has been dry. I have one load out at the moment and one load just finishing a cycle and ready to be hung out.

Get the washing out on the line. You can always bring it in if it rains, I would rather it be out a couple of hours and be 50% dry then hang it on the airer to dry off properly.

Dh doesn't do the washing, I do.

I've seen him stand and look at the rain and not notice the washing getting wet.

I'm with your husband. Can't stand rain on my washing - hate the way it smells. And as it's more or less 180% guaranteed to rain at the mo, what's the point in running in and out of the house? Mind you, I have a lovely conservatory where I put my clothes to dry in summer. Honestly, best things ever for British summers, conservatories where you can dry your washing.

i hang it out and let it get rained on if it's still wet when it starts raining in the hope it'll dry during the next dry spell.

Oh, I don't leave it out in the rain, I will go and bring it in.

If I am going out though and have washing and it says it will rain around lunchtime and I know I will not be back, then I will put it straight on the airer.

I leave mine out in the rain.

Tend to put it out if it looks like it will stay vaguely dry with showers.

I find leaving clothes out in the rain makes them smell yuck. I always take in and often re-wash.

Peg it out! Mine has surprising dries well the last two days even though overcast as it was windy. Quick 10min blast in the tumble drier and it was done.

Mine goes out and stays there until dry.
If this takes several days there 'may' be some rewashing of tops etc but generally it just gets ironed and put away.

If you wanted to hang it all outside, you could peg all your smaller things like socks and underwear to a coathaner(s) and hang that on the line. Much less work if it does start to rain.
I never ever hang washing outside. Ever. I am pathetic and am frightened of bugs making their homes in my clothes.

I won't hang it outside if it looks like it's going to rain, no. too much of a faff having to drag it all off the line again in a hurry.

But if the chance of rain was only going on the weather forecasters' say-so, then I would hang it out.
