Moving house and cleaning

We're emigrating and usually before I move house I clean the place until it is sparkling however the new places we've moved into don't even appear to have been hoovered yet alone dusted or cleaned after the previous owners have moved out.

In previous moves how much cleaning did you intend on doing and what did you actually do. Please be honest!

I leave them spotless and hoover up behind the removal men!
You're right though, never get it back in return.

same as passthegin

I clean my way out of the house and do far more cleaning than I usually do (slattern) so that the new owners can put stuff away etc without having to clean first. Unfortunately, I then usually move into a house where the previous occupants have not been so considerate.

What passmethegin said, though both times have been fairly unusual in that we've moved out before completion and moved in a few days afterwards so it's not been as stressful as when you have to do everything on one day.

I could never leave the place in a state esp with our last buyer who was 8+ months pregnant. It is galling though, to spend ages cleaning your house only to have to start again when you turn up at the new house.

Hi I cheat - I pay for a cleaning company and an oven cleaning company to come in and do the work for me. Worth every penny!! They were called Time For You Domestic Cleaning (www.timeforyou.co.uk) and OvenGleam (www.ovengleam.com). Hope that helps and good luck with the emigration.

I left my house spotless, and the house I moved into was disgusting, kim and Aggie would have loved it,

As bamboo said though it was annoying to leave my lovely clean house to start cleaning again

inscotland · 20/05/2009 17:51

I'd never dream of leaving my mess/dirt for someone else to clean up but given we're not exactly moving around the corner I think I will be paying for it to be done for us!

I clean or pay someone to do it after me but never as much as i would like because I usually find something that got accidentally packed and put in the removal lorry which i need (like a mop and bucket)
