I've always wondered whether those companies are worth it, there are so many leaflets dropped through the door.....

KirstyJC · 18/05/2009 14:16

oooh - how much was it? did it take long? Which company?? tell me tell me!!

FrankMustard · 18/05/2009 14:16

sorry, meant to say - it's good to know they're worth paying for the job!

rubyslippers · 18/05/2009 14:16

they are worth every penny IME

georgiemum · 18/05/2009 14:16

She would pass out if she saw my oven.

HuwEdwards · 18/05/2009 14:16

Frank - honestly, it's like new. She's going to put me on a reminder list for 6 months time.

Oh, I so want to have this done as I am a lazy slattern vegetarian and can't be arsed do not want to clean meat juices off my cooker.

Is your oven really shiny and new . How much did it cost and how long did it take? Did she do the hob and hood as well?

lynniep · 18/05/2009 14:19

yes please, tell us the info..my oven is SHOCKING!!

Lemontart · 18/05/2009 14:20

I would be too embarrassed to have anyone clean my bbq pit of an oven. Would take me weeks of hard graft in order to get it respectable enough to allow someone in to clean it

HuwEdwards · 18/05/2009 14:20

The company was rather unambiguously called 'Oven Cleaning Services' - think it's a franchise. £50 to spotlessly clean 2 ovens and a grill.

tbh they weren't boggingly bad because it's a new stove and I'm determined to keep it that way. But, it's a standard price - she gave me it over the phone before she'd set eyes on it.

I had my oven cleaned before our tenants moved into our house and it was also £50 - and fabulous!

HuwEdwards · 18/05/2009 14:22

Took 2 hours. She quoted £80 for hob as well, but I've managed to keep that respectable - and she agreed it wasn't worth doing.

Now if she'd seen my previous cooker...I paid the builders a fiver to ensure it went in the bottom of the skip so the neighbours wouldn't see just how bad it was...

I used my first professional oven cleaner last week and was really pleased with the job. I thought they'd come in and just steam clean, but it involves an awful lot of elbow grease and all the removable bits were taken out to a special tank in their van.
Hope to have this done once a year, with 'my' cleaning in between.

JulesJules · 19/05/2009 12:55

I hope to have this done once a year with no cleaning inbetween...

Hi I use my local oven cleaning company at least twice a year now - the guys are polite and my oven looks amazing when they are done. I use OvenGleam (www.ovengleam.com)here in the Bristol area but think they cover quite a large area of the South-West. they also belong to The Assocation of Approved Oven Cleaners (www.ovencleaning.net) which I like 'cos they all use an eco-friendly family safe way of cleaning. None of those nasty smelling gels/caustic type products. My little boy happily sits watching the oven cleaning guy when he is here - free babysitting as part of the service - magic! Can't recommend them highly enough - think it costs about £60 for my double oven.

nickschick · 20/05/2009 15:17

Cathy you seem to be promoting this company a lot ....be careful MN charges for adverts .

angelene · 20/05/2009 15:19

Oh god I am desperate to find an oven cleaning company, thank you so much for this.

My oven is a state very difficult to clean and Ovenclean don't operate in my area so I am very grateful for this. Mumsnet rules!
