Anybody used a cleaner to do a spring clean?

I am thinking about using a cleaner to spring clean my house (my thinking is that once my house is actally 'properly clean' it will be easier for me to keep that way )

Have any of you used a cleaner for this? How much does it cost? And what do they actally do? TIA

I had one when we moved out of our house and put it on the market. It was a bit different though as it was empty. I think she charged £9/£10 per hour (about the same as a regular cleaner in the area). She spent about 7 hours cleaning in total and cleaned everything - ie windows, floors, skirting boars, oven, cooker, inside cupboards, bathroom tiles, etc, etc.

She'd basically do whatever I asked her to, so it's up to you really.

No but funnily enough I was wondering about this only today as I did battle with some pretty heavy-duty dust upstairs which I only seem to notice once in a blue moon.

Thanks Frazzled. See thats the thing I have so much junk in cupboards I think clesner would spend ages emptying them! And then i would end up with piles to be sorted which is not ideal with an 8 week old and 2 other DC!

Blimey!!! I have to say i used to charge about £300 for a spring clean.....much more than others have mentioned!!!

Worked so hard for that! It used to take 5 half days, tried to finish it in the week. I cleaned more or less everything and moved as much furniture as humanly possible! Everything washed or damp dusted not just polished. I have to say this is the price we used to charge at the cleaning company i worked for, although then it didn't take so long as there were usually 2 or 3 of us. I haven't had any complaints about my cost or standard of work.

As an army wife we are always moving. If you live in an army house it has to be absolutely spotless when you move. Last time cost £340!!

yes, but i suppose it depends on the extent of a. the dirt and b. how far you wnat them to go. I needed a really good go at the floors, the kitchen and the paintwork all washed down. All that was done perfectly, they also did the bathroom. They didn't need to do all the cupboards and drawers etc, and I had already done the windows. But they were fab, like a whirlwind through the house......

I had one - 2 people for the morning, I think I paid £100.

It was really worth it.

Thanks for this thread: I've been meaning to start a similar one for ages. Want our hovel flat to be properly clean before dd2 arrives in a month.

Should I just pick someone at random out of the yellow pages? Do you think an individual would be better or a cleaning company?

I got a cleaning company i and they stayed about 5 hours, there were four of them and they cleaned from top to bottom, including cupboards (and put it all back) fridge, oven, made beds. And it really helped me having other people around so I tackled tasks of shame I had ignored because they were just behind me the finish the cleaning job...

Cost about £200.

I didn't do inside cupboards (although would have been happy to!) I cleaned outside and on top of all kitchen cupboards.

What do you mean what did i do with the stuff under the sofa??....lol getting abit confused there!! Yes, i moved all sofas and hoovered all the cushions and down in all the little crevices! I also cleaned all paintwork all light fittings and all windows.

Sounds like my spring clean is more than others but it is just the going rate round here!

My sofa has a gap umderneath and stuff collect umder it,

O right NBM! Lol!!! Well....of course i moved all the furniture!!!.....no bits and bobs escaped me!!!! I also moved as much big furniture as i could, chests of drawers, bedside tables, beds etc., etc., This way i could then clean skirting boards and hoover completely underneath.

Mrsbab.. it would be good if you had someone who could recommend someone for you, that is always best. Otherwise i would have a good look through the yellow pages and phone for quotes etc., Also, a little tip....don't be scared to complain if the work is not up to standard. When i worked for a cleaning company the managers sometimes got calls from customers who weren't completely satisfied (some of them were nightmares to please though!) Some of them were genuine complaints, cleaners aren't infallible (sp!) Our managers always used to send us back or give refunds if not completely satisfied. By saying that, i don't mean to complain for no reason, most cleaners really do try hard and everyone has different standards and ways of doing things, but just remember it is you who should dictate what you want doing!

Also, if you want a really good job doing.....I would go out and leave them to it! There is nothing worse than trying to do a through spring clean and having to dodge the owner!

Hi I used a local company Time For You Domestic Cleaning here in Bristol (www.timeforyou.co.uk/House-Cleaning/Bristol) for my one-off clean. they charged a Booking Fee of £30 and the £15 per hour per cleaner for as long as I needed. They were brilliant too. The only thing they didn't do was the oven but they recommended OvenGleam (www.ovengleam.com) for my oven and wow - the results on my oven were amazing - it looked like new when they'd finished.
