Is there a rule on where to put curtain tie-backs?

Obviously near the curtains but how far up/down?

I'd hold them back at different heights and see what looks best. Or better, get someone else to hold them whilst you stand back and see

Try a third of the way up, or a quarter if they are very, very long.

If there was a 'rule' would you seriously follow it? Just put them where it looks best - I'd say it would depend on the length of the curtains.

Well, my suggestion is based on the 'rule of thirds' or you could use the golden mean - google it, too complicated to explain...
