Does anyone use an ironing service?

I've just had a promotion at work and have finally decided to get some domestic help, as the new job will be more demanding and I can't keep pace with my ironing pile now.

I'm looking at an ironing service that picks up and delivers (although I'd probably drop it off and just have it delivered back).

They charge £13.50/hour, which sounds a lot but I'm guessing a purpose build laundry with professional steam irons etc can get a lot of ironing done in an hour? what do you think?

Also they have a van with rails to bring your clothes back hung up, do you think they supply the hangers?

Any insights would be helpful, so I don't end up looking a complete dummy.

Mine charges £8/hr with free drop off and pick up if that helps!

She does get through a lot in an hour though!

I would think they supply wire hangers which you return with the next lot...

We used to use an ironing service, I cannot remember how much but they used to charge by the item, from what I remember it was quite reasonable.

I used to drop off on the weekend, but they used to drop back to me on a Wednesday when I work from home.

They supplied wire hangers and they put them in that plastic stuff (same as dry cleaning). I ended up providing my own hangers as I couldn't cope with the amount of hangers that was accumulating in my house.

I threw all the stuff to be ironed plus the hangers into one of those Ikea bags and took it there.

Never had a problem, apart from one time when their shop was shut (staff shortage) and all our work clothes were in tbere, and DP was going away on business for 2 weeks the following day!

I was using an ironing service (when heavily pregnant until a few weeks ago). Items were charged per item, hangers supplied and covered in plastic. It cost around £20 per week for a family of four (clthes for the week plus spares)

I have an ironing service run from home ,I choose to charge per item this way people know the exact cost.

I charge £1.25 for shirts
50p for childrens items
75p for adults

No one seems to have a problem and im alot cheaper than other local companies.
I collect and aim to deliver within 48 hours .All adult items are returned on hangers

I pay £10 for 12 items in London, collected and delivered within 24 hours, returned on hangers.

I usually send 12 shirts and blouses as we tend not to iron anything else, certainly not the dc's clothes.

I've started using a service now, not every week but probably one or twice a month to keep it under control.

I pay 50p per item, I think it's 80p for shirts, I drop off and pick up which is easier for me anyway,everything comes back on hangers.

any one know of one near cambridge?

We've just started using Steamrollers, based in Highfields Caldecote, just outside Cambridge.

She charges (I think) £1.25 per pound of ironing - that worked out as two shopping bags stuffed full of DH's shirts for £15, and it all looked very good.

She comes round in a van and collects and drops off from certain areas on certain days.
