Just curious - am I the only person in the world who doesn't use softener in their washing?

I hate clothes smelling strongly of detergent/softener.

So, what does it do for your clothes?

Nope dont use it either. Hate the smell and feel of it tbh

OrmIrian · 11/05/2009 16:21

I don't. I think our water is quite soft anyway. Don't want more artificial smells than neccessary. Clean washing smells nice anyway especially when it's been dried in the fresh air.

FrankMustard · 11/05/2009 16:21

I never use it. Strictly a Fairy powder lady, me. But then I prefer my towels a bit crunchy rather than fluffy and limp!

notsoteenagemum · 11/05/2009 16:23

I use Green Force softener but only on dd's towels if they've been on the line because she hates it if they're 'crispy'!

I use Green Force or E-cover liquid or Tesco's own non-bio to wash anything else seems to irritate one or more of us.

TheProvincialLady · 11/05/2009 16:25

I don't use it. It makes the clothes feel greasy and it reeks IMO. I always think, what is the point in spending £50 on perfume only to have it overpowered by something that costs £2.50?

BonsoirAnna · 11/05/2009 16:32

Fabric softener is a totally redundant product IMVHO.

PurlyQueen · 11/05/2009 17:12

I can't see the point of fabric conditioner - my clothes feel fine without it.

My mum keeps leaving bottles of FC when she comes to visit.

Racingsnake · 12/05/2009 22:20

Still got the free bottle handed out in hospital when dd was born over two years ago. Also still got free packet of scented nappy bags. Double and yuerk to smell. Prefer poo.

Greensneeze · 12/05/2009 22:21

no, it stinks

do use ironing water though

Mspontipine · 12/05/2009 22:30

I LOVE IT !!

plimple · 12/05/2009 22:33

I just don't understand it. My Mum never used it so I've never thought to. Don't have a tumble dryer either. How much softer could my clothes be?

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/05/2009 22:36

I think I bought some fabric conditioner once, used it once (about 20 years ago), didn't like the feel or smell of the clothes, so I never used it again.

I love rough scratchy towells they are very good for exfoliating!

When I get clothes passed on from friends they never seem clean and bright if they've been regularly done in fabric conditioner. I wash and line dry them a couple of times and they come up much nicer.

I just use sainsburys own washing powder which doesn't have much scent in. I hate all the strong smelling powders and fabric conditioners - don't wear perfume myself and hate any kind of artificial perfumy smell.

Directskiandsun · 13/05/2009 10:36

I don't use it, although I do like the smell of some of them, which seems to last even when things are stored in the airing cupboard. All the male members of the family seem to have sensitive skin, and it does irritate them, which is a shame - I'd use it otherwise.

spokette · 13/05/2009 10:47

I don't use it because I can't stand the stench.

Mspontipine · 13/05/2009 23:34

"Stench" my clothes smell gorgeous - there are so many scents available

Line fresh
Barefoot in the grass
Tempting nature
Touch of pink
Sapphire violet
Tropical burst

Just some I am using at the moment - I'm a bit of an addict fan !! One to suit every mood - how can you hate every one?

I agree about air freshener - horrible stuff. Gets in the back of your throat and I want to shout out - if something smells bad it's because you need to clean/open a window/change the binliner/wash your dog/clean the carpet......don't just mask it with scent of lily-frangipane-musky-rose!!

BusyBeeWithThree · 13/05/2009 23:40

I don 't use it as it clogs up the drawer of my washing machine. I just fairy non bio in the machine drum and no slimey drawer to clean.

bronze · 13/05/2009 23:40

I don't. I use vinegar instead sometimes

Mspontipine · 14/05/2009 00:00

I don't use air freshener - my air is perfectly fresh already.
We do seem to be in a particularly hard water area.

mears · 14/05/2009 00:33

I hate wearing clothes that have not been softened. I have soft water too but much prefer to use a fabric softener. I love the smell too. Comfort pure is good where there is a history of excema. I just hate not using it.

tigerdriver · 14/05/2009 00:42

what is softener?

never use it, and my clothes come out fine.. Dd2 has sensitive skin so have to be careful anyway

Tortington · 14/05/2009 01:08

i don't know about softened clothes - i really don't know what that means

i use fabric conditioner - is that the same thing?

i have taken to using it recently - after giving up smoking - i love the smell it gives the clothes and the house
