My iron is causing my fuse box to trip (I think)

Tried to use my iron recently, and each time it caused the fuse box to trip. Do you think there could be a fault in the iron doing it? (e.g. maybe the iron has been dropped and there is water leaking in it or something?)

Yes, it could even just be the iron has got too old. The water meets the electrics and the fuse pops.

Time for a new iron.

Once - who knows, twice - fault with the iron. DO NOT USE - a short circuit could cause a fire, an earthing fault could electrocute you!
Of course that is what the circuit breaker is for - to protect you!
Having said that, it is worth looking inside the plug if you can and checking that the problem is not in there (if you know what to look for)

Thank you ! Well, the iron is 6 years old, and I think it has been dropped a couple of times, so it might be time for a new iron !!!

We had this with our steam generator iron. It had started to leak steam and caused it to short out and trip the circuit breakers in the house. I had dropped it a couple of times and I used to leave it switched on, much to the annoyance of DH.

We had exactly the same problem with our iron. Purchased a new one and that sorted it out.

Had this every time my tefal was on its last legs I knew then I had to buy a new one.

In the end (after 11 years of tefal) I bought a bosch. I love my bosch.

Mine does the same. It's fine as long as we don't use the steam function.

Mine's a Tefal Fizzy !!!!! Right, will be buying a bosch.
