Carpet cleaning

We have a 12 foot square dining room with cream carpet that's quite grubby. Should we hire a carpet cleaner? Or buy one?

We do have other carpets, rugs and so on, but they don't get as dirty and are a more sensible dark green colour.

It's a rented house and the carpet's probably quite old and not particularly good.

But it does look very grubby.

We hired one from Homebase for the day. It cost about 20 quid and we managed to do 5 carpets in a day. It made a real difference! Far cheaper than buying one IMO...

it depends how much you will use it,
my sister has the vax upright, the one with the hose and tools so you can use it for the stairs/car interiors too,
i think its great, really easy to use,and made a huge difference, you do have to pre-treat stains though,
it was only £99
