My Mum's cat keeps spraying

everywhere - up walls, on the carpet etc. It makes the house smell. I think she should take him to the RSPCA as her house is in SERIOUS need of decorating, but no point with piddly cat there. Anyone know of any products that will deter a cat from spraying in the house? Vet hasn't been a lot of help.

Is cat neutered? If not get done asasp. If he is then possibly stress is causing it, new baby, another cat in the area bullinging him etc.
Does cat have a litter tray? If not get one.
Cats don't like citrus this may help if you put in areas that he likes to spray. Or your vet can sell you a Feliway diffuser this is also designed to releive stress and prevent spraying.

Yes he is neutered, he's a lovely old stray ginger who turned up in the greenhouse one day and stayed. He's very affectionate and a lovely cat, BUT a pain with the spraying. Doesn't seem any reason for it. The Feliway sounds a good idea - thanks for that.

Also if you have been to vet I pressume they have ruled out a urinary infection??

One of our cats does this, he's also neutered but a bit neurotic and every so often something, and we weren't always sure what, would make him start spraying and beating up the other cats. Our vet prescribed Ovarid tablets for him and they do the trick - he takes 5mgs every four days or so. There can be side effects such as weight gain so it's recommended to get them onto the lowest dose possible. Did try the diffuser first but no luck with it. HTH
