Help!!! Brand new hoover no suction on main bit, but hose is super-powerful

I just bought an upright Electrolux bagless hoover, which I've used twice and have been thrilled to death with. Picks up the cat hair like nothing I've ever seen before.

Today - 3rd time it's been used, the brushes won't spin on the main 'sucky' bit, although the hose is fantastic and works great. There is LOTS of hot air blowing out of the fan on the bottom, it's actually blowing stuff around and not picking it up.

I bought an upright because I have back issues and DO NOT want to be using the hose to hoover my main floors and carpets.

I've emptied and cleaned the dust cup, filter and foam, checked the brush for blockage, disassembled & reassembled hose and have found no blockage, moved to another room, tried another power point, nothing has worked. The electrolux website has no troubleshooting section and I've emailed them but no response.

Anyone have this happen before - even on something not Electrolux-made and had a solution?

belt?

Meta - it's brand new. The belt is fine, checked that as well.

You should just take it back and demand a replacement TBH.

Ah - just wondered because you hadn't mentioned it.

Not that i once threw out a hoover due to this and discovered years later about hoover belts oh dear no...

LOL Meta, sorry I sounded a bit snippy - just so frustrated with this at the moment. To be honest, I don't want to maneouvre this thing back down to Argos - I don't drive and I had to put it together. I just want someone to tell me why a brand new hoover suddenly stopped half-working and seems to have made up for it in the other half
