How do I get toothpaste out of my carpet?

ds squeezed half a tube out and my MIL tried to scrub with tissue (duh....grrrr) and it looks terrible, any ideas?

I think I'd be inclined to scrape off as much as possible with the back of a knife then add water and gently 'massage' it away, lots of rinsing. Sadly I am not a carpet or a toothpaste expert.......

A very wet sponge should hopefully do it after the scraping suggested above. Why on earth would you MIL think scrubbing with tissue would help??? Bizarre.
