wolf sounds like you will be looking the part on Monday so am sure that will help your confidence. Sure you will be absolutely fine - it's the 'terror of the unknown' which is the worst part eh? Once you are there no doubt you will just get stuck in and it will all fall into place.

And if it doesn't immediately, it will before long. Congratulations btw!

TheMadHouse · 18/04/2009 21:05

Wolf You will be, just remember you have all of us behind you, should you need us.

EHM We had a fine day actually, DS1 noe has a 16 inch bike from Bobbys Cycles (do you remember it!!! 12 and 14 ince bikes just have different sized tyres and same size frame - so may help just to take her to an indipendant to try for size

Boys loved monsters v aliens and I managed to have a leasurly shop - but I hate morrisons

Gib one of mine is blond the other brown, but then so are me and my brother. I am sure the more you look at the TV the smaller it will look.

We are planning a picnic on wheeldale moor tomorrow.

I have just had a really nice bath, put the barrier stuff on and another bag again - I really am looking forward to healing, so I can have a bra and prosetis' fitted.

Hello, I'm back from Irish hols. LONG TIRING JOURNEY.
Children had a fabulous time, and we did too, although a few door slamming incidents with sister and mother to be expected really. 10 days with close relations in the parental home is really quite long...We all parted on excellent terms, mum apologised for telling me off over various things and was very grateful for a bit of bramble clearance.
Where they live in Eire is so so beautiful, children outside all day long walks, stream paddling, benign neglect works wonders - all six cousins kept disappearing off together outside. Nice chatty breakfasts. Would have liked to stay oforever, if only I had had MY OWN KITCHEN. Hoping to organise a kitchenette in an outhouse for next summer .

Poor Eire though, Celtic tiger economy collapsing. Apparently worse is yet to come.

Haven't quite caught up with thread, except to see that your daughter is feeling a bit better GIBBERISH after operation
and you too MAD.
And WENDY is painting feverishly.
Could you foster cats out and then reclaim them at a later date EHM, poor you sounds very difficult.
See you tommorrow or Monday when I've faced up to being proprietresse extraordinaire again.

swanriver · 18/04/2009 22:07

x post I think I missed a page of updates..sorry everyone I missed.

wendyredkitchenredspots · 18/04/2009 22:35

Hi all
Well I didn't get the night off but now three bedrooms are fully painted (walls and ceilings, two coats each - 2 dark walls needed 5 coats!) DH is on with the glossing woodwork now. By Monday night, hopefully all 3 bedrooms will be finished! We are leaving Bed 4 until a later date as it's not needed as yet. I am starting on downstairs next - have done ceilings already of living room and dining rooms, so it's two coats on the walls to do, edges and glossing.

Went to a really lovely party today at a local small railway club - small steam trains round a largeish track with tunnels, bridges etc - an hour's worth of train rides on various different trains, food, then more trains - all the kids loved it. My DS had a fantastic time plus I felt virtuous as took a friend's daughter too. Her Mum had texted me to say she wasn't going as she couldn't afford to pay anyone petrol to take her and couldn't afford a present either. So I took her daughter and wrapped something up out the gift stock I keep ... I felt bad for the little girl not being able to go tbh. She's a single mum aged 21 and I just wonder how I would manage in that situation - probably not well!

I have eaten my own weight in chocolate and cakes the last few weeks, just the fast pace of life I think and exhaustion zaps my willpower so I know how you feel about the half a stone, wolf. Glad you got some clothes.

nice to see you back swan grouchy I haven't been to Redbrick it was wolf recommended it. Personally I think we all have different priorities on where to spend our money but I will reserve judgement til I go and look! Like wolf I love kitchen shops too! But my own style has always been shabby chic before it was invented I think - I have so many Hornsea cups and saucers and parts of dinner sets - I just love Hornsea pottery - nothing matches much! I have matching Denby stuff we got for wedding presents but somehow I love the mismatch for every day!

See you all tomorrow. DH is still round at the new house painting I THINK that we are still married !

Wolfcub · 18/04/2009 22:41

wendy If you're feeling really flush then Mulberry Hall in York has a lovely kitchen section. There are also a number of discount kitchen shops at mcarthur glen near york, saw some nice red and white polka dot stuff there today and they have a denby end of range/seconds shop.

TheMadHouse · 18/04/2009 22:49

I heart McCarther Glen. I am [envy} as DH is in York on business on Wednesday.

Welcome back Swan neglect sounds good to me

wendy You could always make a few extra £'s as a painters mate at this rate a nd good on you for your good deed

swanriver · 18/04/2009 23:16

Wendy I have a V&A poster (in my bathroom) of all the types of china tea cups dating right back. Sometimes I think I am going to track them all down.
House sounds like it is yours now!
I am really ashamed reading this thread over last few months not to have painted ANY of this house, much too frightened of getting it "wrong". When I was working for someone at 20 as an oddjobber I once blithely painted gloss (at her request)onto a newly built unprimed wooden staircase and it all had to be stripped off, the joiner was so upset...My mother always loved painting her house herself and was very into all those paint effects marbling etc.
But something has gone wrong and as a couple we are hopeless at DIY really. Dh did put up a curtain rail, once. But I haven't made curtains for it yet

TheMadHouse · 19/04/2009 07:10

Morning all

I am letting DH have a lie in - he is coming down with something nasty, he has a sore through and feels generally bleurrrrr. Poor fella

Mini's have been up ages. We had an odd call at 2am and it kept me awake.

Washer is on
DW is on - for some reason it didnt work last night

IO am having breakfast, before preparing the boys (as I am starving)

Wolfcub · 19/04/2009 09:58

swan you aren't the only one my house desperately needs painting but it is to big a job for me on my own and whilst dp is great at painting minatures he is useless with a tin of dulux oh god there are so many jobs i need to do, we're going to be one of those desperate families on diy sos n ten years

morning mad

ds has been up since 3 and dp with him so dp has just gone to bed and ds is snoring on my knee - the power of harry and the dinosaurs. I had so much to do today too sob but ds will sleep for about 2 hours I hope and dp doesn't want waking until lunch. I fear my list for the day is officially out of the window

grouchy ds has finally got into the ivor books i bought him at the museum - I'm even managing a (poor) welsh accent

swanriver · 19/04/2009 10:13

There's a lovely Ivor video which you might be able to get on Amazon Wolfcub, I'm afraid I've given it away now, and it was s/h when I found it in Oxfam. I remember the episode when the train wants to go swimming like all the children.

My mustard and cress has finally come up/survived in my absence - rather tough and leathery due to its outdoor non-flannelled existence, but the first crop!

First row of morning over [yoghurt pot quarrel)church now cancelled till 6.0

Dh has says we are now officially chilling out.
TO DO
sweep kitchen floor
sweep hall floor
sort shoes
mop floors
mow lawn

go to shop and buy more seeds
go swimming after lunch
make lunch spaghetti tomato sauce
defrost something in freezer for supper

The garden is looking delightful but higgledypiggledyesque and v.v.small after all that countryside .

swanriver · 19/04/2009 10:14

hope your dh's sore throat improves, TMH.

swanriver · 19/04/2009 10:34

Wolfcub, don't worry about house revamping, one morning your dh will just wake up and say, I think house needs a bit of work and suddenly...In our case this only happens when ceiling falls down, and he paid someone else to do it but still...

Wolfcub · 19/04/2009 10:39

hello again

done
loo cleaned
very quick pick up in living room
wm uloaded, reloaded and on
dry washing folded, wet washing hung up.

swan I think you might be being very kind about my dp's diy skills there!

Wolfcub · 19/04/2009 10:41

forgot one - mince out of freezer to defrost for sheepdog pie later

Wolfcub · 19/04/2009 11:09

Written the first draft of my fundraising letter to local businesses - anyone with any experience advice would be greatly appreciated

TheMadHouse · 19/04/2009 11:30

Wolf You need Prof she is an expert marketeer!

Swan we have had a morning of two very insolant boys, both have been sent to their rooms at least three times.

DH is in a pickle as we can not find the flasks - he has had the garage out and it is a tip already without any more mess.

We are off out in a mo - if only just to calm everyone down

Wolfcub · 19/04/2009 12:14

grouchy if you know anyone who lives in the Sheffield area who would let you borrow their address there is a competition in the Sheffield Star to win powerminers

gibbberish · 19/04/2009 14:28

Afternoon

What a glorious day - so hot! And I am stuck in tidying the house Done all downstairs - just upstairs to do.

dh is off buying a barbecue for tonight - youngest sis and bil coming over, hence the quick clean and tidy up.

Still to do:

Tidy my room
Put away a mountain of clothes
Dust
Hoover
Clean upstairs bathroom

Hope you are all out enjoying the sun now! I hope to catch a bit of it in a little while. Off to get cracking!

grouchyoscar · 19/04/2009 15:06

Wendy Many apologies re my Redbrick rant, I just despise the ethos of the place. Have you been to the kitchen shop at Clarence Dock in Leeds (just down from the Armories)? It looks so wonderful and I could quite easily and readily spend a fortune in there. Haven't been in tho, we had Ed with us and, you know what they say about bulls and china shops I love the boho chic look too, that's the influence of MIL!

Been hard at it since a late breakfast and just sat down. Lots of cleaning of the kitchen plus sink shining and wm loading, emptying and sorting. It's a lovely day out there, I just can't summon up the gumption to get out of my PJs and get out there

swanriver · 19/04/2009 17:23

Well today has been horrible.
Despite lovely weather.
But in spite of this the good bits have been

scootering
visit to park bicycling, talking to neighbours etc
whisking dts off to garden centre and great glass elevatorland, seed potato buying, loobrush buying in quantity
changing some plants over in front garden
dh mowed the lawn and mended broken wheel on new lawnmower
all dandelions dug up prior to mowing, very satisfying to get those long roots out...

So not so bad really.
Now to do some nitcombing.

GREYSKULL Hope party is going well. It is exhausting but you will feel and like megastar when it is finished, and what a fbulous day for it!

scattyspice · 19/04/2009 17:42

Hi all.

At last some SUN!

We have been to Whitehouse farm for the day. Lots of fun. There was a group of students doing a play (collecting money to go to Edinburgh Festival). DD was enthralled and spent the rest of the day flouncing round the playground, bowing and curtsying lol (that girl was made for showbiz!).
