mission

wendyredkitchenredspots · 16/04/2009 09:14

Missed coming on yesterday - spent all day at the new house running around after my parents who were there cleaning it - I know it's nice of them to clean but then I get nothing done that needs doing i.e. the painting!! They were cleaning things which are filthy but not necessary to move in, like the conservatory roof and outside, the tile grout ... don't think they get it really that I need the shower cleaning and the ovens to live not roofs!!

Rant over. I am officially on my knees with exhaustion but it will be worth it in the end. Painted an entire room again last night (it's the bloody edges that kill me, don't mind the rollering bits, it's all the edges which take about three times as long!). Still haven't got one finished room yet but the bedroom is nearly there. Lots of it I can't do now at night as it's second coats of cream type colour where you can't see where you're painting in the artificial light.

Planning on moving in not this weekend but next weekend so we still have some time, but DS has two parties this weekend which scuppers things a bit.

FIL has been the most helpful person, he has sorted out every socket in the house, sinking them into the walls, making singles into doubles, sorting out dodgy bits of wire etc, replacing light fittings, doing wiring etc and today he is removing the elements from the ovens and cleaning them - bless him!!!

Right need to get on and get kids dressed - meant to be at farm today but it is looking murky out so not sure.

May not be back again today, have read threads and hope everyone is ok - Gib thinking of you and DD
mad keep taking it easy and glad about new pills! you need anything you can to help atm
everyone sorry not for individual hello's will be better flyfriend soon!!

Morning all

Thanks for all your good wishes for dd yesterday - they def helped! Had her op at 9am (they had bumped her up to first on the list) and she was back in the ward by half ten. She slept on and off most of the morning. The doc visited and said op went very well although tumour was bigger than he previously thought - size of a tennis ball (unbelievable considering she is tiny) so he had to make a large incision to be able to remove it. Because was such a large cavity she had a drain in but all was looking well.

Had been told she would stay in overnight but when she had a check up at 6pm was told she could go home!! She was delighted (as were we).

So she is back here and is fine. Is still very sore and woozy with meds and has to remove the dressings today which she is not looking forward to. But she has been absolutely brilliant - has been able to laugh at remembering telling all the docs and nurses to shut up and let her sleep just as they were trying to wake her from the anaesthetic lol. She did apologise after. She actually wanted to see the tumour (ugh) so doesn't seem phased by any of this experience! Will see how she is later today when she removes the dressing.

Sorry didn't post last night but had a procession of family coming to see her which was lovely.

Will see the consultant in two weeks to discuss fitting her with prosthesis. Reconstruction won't be done for at least another year yet.

So that's that hurdle over thank goodness. Thankd mad, all your information re the op really helped.

Got more visitors coming today so need to have a quick tidy around before they arrive.

Will catch up on what everyone has been doing later on x

TheMadHouse · 16/04/2009 10:34

Yah for Gibs daughter. I am so pleased things went well. I am sure the dressing removal will be fine.

Wendy amke sure you still take things easy, as the pox virus will still be in your body. I understand the cleaning things too - different generation, they need the outside sorted for all to see.

Waves to Scatty and EV

I am at the hospotal at noon and then they boys are having their haircut this afternoon.

My lovley friend is coming round to look after the boys and feed them lunch - why are hospital appointments at such an inconveinant time.

Washer is on
neet to wash front room mat as DS2 had an accident on it
Also need to strip our bed and wash

galen · 16/04/2009 11:14

Quick hello all from me!
We are in Ireland, having survived our 13 hour journey....

Things not too bed here.
FIL is still in hosp, but coming back tomorrow.
MIl is really enjoying having the children around and I think the chaos is helping her keep her mind off things a bit!

Hi all.

Galen - well done on suriving the journey! I bet your DC are a real tonic to your pils at this stressful time. You must be exhausted though.

Gibber - I am full of admiration for your dd. She seems to take things totally in her stride. You must be so proud of her . Take care.

Good luck at the hosp mad.

BBL a riot is breaking out lol!

Gib - well done to your DD. She sounds very brave. Might not sink in until all of the fuss has died though.

Have had friends over this morning and house looks ok which is good. Eye appt for DD1 this afternoon.

Wolfcub · 16/04/2009 13:17

afernoon all gib I'm glad dd is home and doing well

TheMadHouse · 16/04/2009 14:08

Afternoon all

galen glad you are all there OK and hope that things are as easy as possible

Waves to everyone else.

I still have the stoma bag on, but also some prtective barrier wand things so hopefully the adhesive will not keep riping of skin. back in a week

DS2 is napping
Bed is stripped
Washer is on
TD is on

Hair cuts next after cup of tea and a well earned rest!!!

scattyspice · 16/04/2009 15:16

Back from soft play. I am starting to realise that my Dc like completely different things. DD can potter around at home for hours but ds gets bored very quickly and loves the park, swimming baths, soft play etc which dd hates! DD has spent 2 hrs at soft play sitting on my knee .

Right ironing next.

grouchyoscar · 16/04/2009 17:24

Hello All

Just a quick FLYpast. I've been to the supermarket the £1 shop (bird fat balls) and the charity shop(Duffer of st George top, smart trews and a book for Ed) then been sorting out family finances (Poor DH signed on yesterday, it's squeaky bum time at Grouchy's) So lots of 'what do we spend' and 'what can we cut back on' I cut the Direct Ds (not DDs as that would sound awful in MN land) down by £200 yesterday

Quick yeah, sure to Wolf for yesterday's suggestion (so long as you don't slap me!)

TMH Poor you. I't so soul destroying when despite your best efforts /intentions bodily fluids leak

And Waves to everyone else See you tomorrow

gibbberish · 16/04/2009 17:48

Evening. Been hectic here - had people popping in to see dd1 all day so she is off for a sleep now which is good.

Thanks for all your lovely message

Took her dressings off this morning and I it was a bit too much for her. She was so upset - I think seeing the wound and the difference in shape and size has really shocked her. She cried for quite a while but I do think she needed that...

Anyway, all the visitors lifted her spirits and she has had loads of cards and pressies which always help

Tried to keep the house as tidy as I could today but really must do some washing! We have no clothes to wear tomorrow...

galen Oooo Ireland - very of you!

tmh just wanted to give you huge hug, but very gingerly ofcourse.

grouchy has dh just been made redundant?

Will tell you later about our 'bomb scare' experience at the Holiday Inn in Aberdeen where we stayed over the weekend lol... all ended very well.

gibbberish · 16/04/2009 17:49

Oooer I do use a lot of smileys

wendyredkitchenredspots · 16/04/2009 18:54

grouchy i thought dh was between contracts? I think i have missed something too. It's squeaky bum time in our finances too - it's draining running two houses!

Well took the children to the local farm today with MIL. Good to get out and about and fresh air etc but then came home to new house millions of things to do and old house - washing, ironing, washing up, cleaning etc etc all neglected. Hardly any food in the fridge etc. Life is difficult atm but I know we are all well and healthy and am keeping perspectivE

Gib your dd is amazing, echo everyone's sentiments and also think it is good she's had a good cathartic cry. It's ok to feel sorry for yourself sometimes! You are being a brilliantly supportive mum too.

mad like everyone says sounds like you are on the mend a bit and the increase in meds will be helping. How did the hair cuts go?

Wolf hope you get more sleep! don't know how you could survive on so little!

galen hope all goes as well as can do in Ireland.

Prof hope virus is better?

Scatty that's interesting about your DD and DS. Mine are quite similar although DS has a much longer attention span and concentration than DD - he can sit for literally hours painting etc whereas she'll manage up to an hour (still good for a two year old I suppose!)

Well, I am off now to paint my chocolate brown bedroom wall and touch up the other walls - then that room will only need the woodwork glossing yay a room finished!

See you tomorrow

Oh don't wendy you will set me off blubbing now! Someone made the mistake of asking how I was earlier and it took all my will power not to have hysterics lol.

I think she will be healed by the summer tpt and should have been given her prosthesis by then. Althuough the scar is ver long, it won't be seen even if she wears a bikini which is brill. That was one of the things she was worried about. The consultant was just so fantastic - I just wanted to give him a huge hug. So were all the staff infact. They do such a brilliant job and prob don't get enough thanks for it. Am going to send in a card and a huge box of chocs to ward 9.

TheMadHouse · 16/04/2009 19:12

Gib It is a shock to look. I felt quite butchered, but day by day it is getting paler and she will be able to use bio oil on it once she has healed. You need to take a deep breath too.

Boys hairs are done will maybe get pics tomorrow, but they are still long and curly and messey My Hairdresser made me cry - I have known her since school and mum was in earlier today for her perm and set (old lady emo) and hairdresser said my mum couldnt stop saying how fab I had been and how proud of me she is and that we have handled it as a family. It is so unlike my mum, which is why she told me. I had a blub and then took the boys to see my mum and give her a hug

DH is going to give my swelling a massage tonight to see if he can get some more of the fluid out before the hole heals. The nurse thinks it is because I lay on that side, so it isnt draining well, although they are so supprised that I still need a bag.

It was nice though, when I got hugs from a couple of the other nurses and the ward sister. They are a fantastic team.

I have the dryer on and the washer on
DH and me have made our bed
ironing piled in a box to take to mums tomorrow
non-ironing put away

I just need to think of dinner for me and DH
ring friend and make plans for tomorrow

May be back later

I know it is very weird, she is not that kind of mum, tends to only see the negative in things. I was made up and even DH and Hairdresser were really shocked at her

But my family are my life and I would more heaven and earth for them

TMI alert. Me and DH have had a cuddle, first one since the operation and I balled my eyes out afterwards.

gibbberish · 16/04/2009 20:21

Thanks tmh, that's comforting to know.

Did you get your hair done too? You must put pics on

Which reminds me, I need to get some pics downloaded of the ball!
