I know i may sound silly asking this but... do you clean BEFORE the cleaner comes?

Feeling confused but maybe this is something i have been missing all these years. A friend of mine says she cleans BEFORE the cleaner comes! I asked if she meant tidy up so the cleaner could clean but she says she cleans i.e. washes the floor, hoovers etc. Surely there is no point paying for a cleaner if you're going to do it yourself?!?!

Is this common place?

Utterly barmy. I used to tidy for the cleaner so she could see what she was meant to be cleaning.

I tidy, a little. But she tidies better than me so more often than not I don't bother.

I heart my cleaner.

I tidy, as otherwise the cleaner spends all her time tidying (which I can do) rather than cleaning (which I can't), and I've wasted my money.

We tidy, but would think it mad to clean - that's what you're paying for. I sometimes leave a note asking her to pay particular attention to something - e.g. wipe down bathroom tiles.

this is the most bizarre form of housepride i have ever come across. tidying seems sensible. cleaning clearly bonkers.

I would be so annoyed if the house was clean when i got there!! There is nothing more boring and demoralising than trying to clean a clean house

Tidy up, yes! That makes things so much easier. Also, do the washing up! It is also nice to find a toilet that has been flushed! But please, no cleaning lol!

Srevienicks here, I am fairly new to mumsnet, I have a DH, 1 DD and 1 DS. I am looking for a good reliable cleaner, just want some advice on how you went about getting your ones????

Tidying is normal, cleaning is bizarre in the extreme. What on earth is the cleaner for?

Stevienicks (hi by the way, welcome to the nest of vipers Mumsnet) my cleaner is my mum, so no help to you there, but there are agencies - pricey - or you could try looking in the noticeboards in local newsagents or supermarkets, or put up a card yourself? That seems to be how plenty of cleaners and tradesmen advertise.
