Shit! I've just broked my blender and I'm making soup. Suggestions, anyone?

Today I have learned that you should never pour boiling water into a glass blender jug, now matter how thick the glass. Not unless you want it to split apart, that is.

How can I finish my soup?

What about broth instead lol

KatyMac · 12/04/2009 12:36

If the veg is soft enough you can push it through a sieve with the back of a spoon

I'd go with KatyMac's suggestion........OR.....just have really chunky soup.

Broth??! I feel that you're not taking my trauma seriously enough!

Good tip, KatyMac! Ta!

Mash it with a potato masher or ricer first. Makes it easier to push through the sieve. Or do you have a food processor??

SQUONKAteAllTheEasterEggs · 12/04/2009 12:42

If you sieve the liquid out of the veg (into a pan, natch) you should be able to mash the veg with a potato masher. Even better if you have a potato ricer. Then re-add it to the liquid and put it back on the hob.

MrsMerryBunnyGirlHenry · 12/04/2009 12:49

I am going to mash then sieve. I don't have a potato ricer (never heard of one, squonky!). No food processor, either - though I think I should stop saying I can't afford one and just splash out, as they make life so much easier.

What's really annoying is that I was going to blend the soup then go out for a run and come back for lunch. Now I'll have to forgo the run. Well it's a good thing I have a figure like Angelina Jolie already, isn't it?

I usually cook it all then mash it with a potato masher - so its lumpy soup. Only because I am too lazy to clean a blender too - its easier to clean a pot and a masher than a pot and blender

Thanks loads for your tips, ladies. The soup tastes lovely and looks good, too. Like giraffes' - lumpy but yummy.
