we have high gloss white and I don't buy the argument that they are hard to keep clean at all - we have 3 small kids and any smeary prints wipe off with a wet cloth. would rather see the smears to clean than to not see them and they stay ages.

It will show up marks - even fingerprints from reasonably clean hands.

I find high gloss finishes very tiring on the eyes TBH.

It is personal thing though.

I love my cream high gloss, they don't show marks any more than the previous 'maple' effect ones but they look 1000 times nicer and help to brighten up my slightly dark kitchen.

IMO the lighter colours are better, my sil has black and red and tells off for discourages my dc from touching them.

noavailablename - i am also considering glossy kitchen units and was interested in your comment about them making your eyes tired. I think I know what you mean - is it a bit like the glare of sunshine, when you have to squint slightly?

Yes - that is exactly it - you are not aware of it at the time, but your eyes do get tired. IME.
