Sounds like some of the cheap wine I drink

I spray vinegar onto a cloth and use it to dust with - the smell soon goes.

Also for a quick spritz around the bathroom.

Soda crystals I don't do much with apart from putting down sinks, although I did come across a method for home made washing up liquid (I'd run out late at night) and it was fab - cleaned all the caked on gunk from the pans. Will try and find link.

I guess the first thing you'll need to do is namechange

soda crystals can unblock drains and clean washing machine

ShauntheSheep · 31/03/2009 10:18

I use soda crystals in the washing machine a they soften the water. Jus tbung in the powder drawer.

Use vinegar and bicarb to clean the bathroom. Sprinkle on bicarb squirt on vinegar (round the tap esp) leave fro a bit then clean off.

Now I am more embarrassed - you are supposed to mock me for my awful joke, not approve!

cilitbang · 31/03/2009 10:24

Thats great, thanks everyone! Just need to think of a way of motivating myself to shutdown this laptop and get on with the cleaning....just one more coffee methinks.

Trillian, it was quite a sarcastic 'nice one'.....and can't think of anything apt and witty to name change to, so the name stays.... (that sexy MF Barry Scott would be so proud of me!)

Phew, that's okay then!

I use white vinegar a lot, use it in the wash in place of fabric conditioner, mix it with water in a plant spray to clean the windows/taps/chrome, dilute half and half with water and boil in the kettle to get rid of limescale (leave it soak overnight afterboiling and rinse well), use it on a cloth to clean kitchen table, mix with hot water and use to clear up sick/cat poo etc as it kills the smell.

I go through tons of the stuff!

soon2befamilyof4 · 31/03/2009 16:01

Can I ask how you use soda crystals to unblock drains? The water is going down very slowly in the sink in the bathroom and not really sure what to do about it? We have soda crystals and vingear etc though.

And vinegar is the best product for removing limescale from taps etc. And works as a fabric softener.

A wee glass of vinegar gets rid of cooking pongs while cooking. Its also good for cleaning mould from tiles/ceiling.

Melfish · 02/04/2009 22:26

Re slow running drains- I had an awful slow running/blocked pipe from the bathroom sink and dutifully tipped all the plug unblockers known to man down the drain, none of which worked. However a couple of goes on a sink plunger did the trick and much cheaper!

My vinegar tip is to splash a bit on some newspaper and it shines up mirrors and taps a treat.
