White painted wooden patio furniture - a bad idea?

Have seen some lovely patio furniture which is wood but painted with white polyurethane paint. Firstly, do you think this would be maintenance-free - you wouldn't have to oil it like you do with unpainted wood, would you?

And secondly, do you think it would go all yucky and dirty over the course of the year (it would be left outside, though could be covered in winter). It looks lovely now but I can imagine it being grey and paint cracked come next spring...

Think it would go all yucky and age sooner than other colours.

I bought a set of teak garden furniture a few years ago but sadly I haven't maintained it properly. I was thinking of painting it with the paint we used on our windows which comes with a 5 year gaurantee.

I like the look of painted furniture it has a New England/Shaker style which I like. Muck prefer that to some horrible orangey wood stain.

I think if it has been painted properly it should weather well.
