what's eating my carpet??!!!

something strange is happening to my bedroom carpet. a dark patch has appeared under the linen basket. on closer inspection the paler colours from the carpet have gone - showing the hessian backing. also there are loads of what looks like bits of rice, but they are not hard. anyone got any ideas?

yes it is a wool mix many thanks for that i gave it a good hoover today, will continue to do so and try to find something to treat it with. ooh yuk.

reading these links i can see where they.ve come from. 3 years ago we had the roof of our single storey extension taken off and raised to create another storey. the builders removed sack loads of birds nests. this sems like the most likely source. i think we should have fumigated the room before decorating!!!

We had these too in our old house. They are indeed carpet moths and they like wool/wool mix carpets. You can treat the carpet - we did this ourselves with an aerosol spray we were given by a pest controller - it stank out the place so you have to go out for quite a while afterward! But it did work.
